Virtually all companies claim that their people are their most valuable asset, but few demonstrate it.  Substantial time and resources are often allocated to improving business results, but most organizations invest little in the people driving those results.

We recognize that the future success of our company is dependent on our ability to engage and develop you, our people, and we want to do better at both.  We aspire to be one of the best companies at positioning employees for fulfilling careers.

To accomplish this goal, I’m excited to announce the following changes:

• Career Coaching.   Reviewing past performance and discussing future career development are distinctly different discussions, and they should be treated as such.  Beginning February 17, 2020, employees who would like help navigating their career development will be given the opportunity to select a career coach from among a group of colleagues who have received career coach training.
• Leadership Compass. Last Spring, we conducted several employee focus groups to identify the best predictors of leadership success at New World Medical.  We call these behaviors our Leadership Compass.  Focusing on demonstrating these behaviors will help us all become better leaders as well as better employees.  We will now begin using the Leadership Compass as our primary criteria for advancement to leadership positions.
• People Committee. Decisions about who gets promoted are too important to leave up to one individual.  We are establishing a People Committee that will be primarily responsible to a) brainstorm and recommend creative development activities to accelerate development and readiness, b) recommend organizational changes or other ideas to improve people development and c) make promotion decisions for leadership roles.

Our senior management team believes that these changes will help our company become a world-class talent developer, enabling us to deliver on our mission to preserve and enhance vision by delivering innovations to benefit humanity.
